Michigan's Invasive Species Community

In addition to the annual Cooperative Lakes Monitoring Program (CLMP) training to be held in conjunction with the 2017 Michigan Lake and Stream Associations Annual Conference, MiCorps staff will also be offering a training session in the western Upper Peninsula to teach residents how to get involved in the program and how to monitor their lakes. This free training is required for a number of different parameters offered by the program. Whether you have been involved with the program for a number of years, just getting started, or just curious as to how it may help you protect your favorite lake, everyone is encouraged and invited to attend this free event. Food, lodging, and transportation are the responsibility of each attendee. A lunch will be available to order.
CLMP UP Training Agenda
Please RSVP to:  Jim Novitski, jjnovitski@gmail.com
Please Note: To monitor your lake through the CLMP, you need to register at www.micorps.net/lake-monitoring/become-a-volunteer, or contact Jean Roth at jroth@mlswa.org or 989-257-3715.  The CLMP training is free, but there are small fees to enroll in the program itself. Anyone interested is welcome at the free training, whether their lake is enrolled in the program or not.

Join ISN and the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy as we work to remove invasive baby's breath from Elberta Beach in Benzie County! Spreading easily over northwest Michigan's beaches and dunes, baby's breath crowds out native plants and degrades important habitat. We need your help to restore Elberta Beach back to a diverse, healthy landscape! With a deep taproot, removal is hard work but extremely rewarding. Shovels and other tools will be provided but please bring your own work gloves to protect your hands while using shovels. Long pants are recommended as there is some poison ivy on the beach.  We will meet at Elberta Beach parking lot.  Water and other refreshments will be provided.

As an extra thank you to volunteers, each particpant will receive coupons to both Stormcloud Brewing and the Crescent Bakery. There will also be a drawing at the end of each workbee for additional prizes including discounts to The Cabbage Shed and Frank Z, packets of wildflower seeds, ISN tee-shirts, and more!
