Volunteers will enjoy a short hike through the beech/maple forest and work along and off the trails in the forested dunes. Meet at the main park entrance off of 138th street. No experience is necessary to join but do expect to do some climbing and hiking along moderately difficult trails. Be sure to arrive on time as we will be walking about 10 minutes to the work location. Meet at the organizational campground parking area on Floral Lane. Meeting location: 41.921620, -86.578874.

A miserable, stinky, invasive weed called garlic mustard is infiltrating high quality natural areas in Waterloo Recreation Area. Happily, it is very easy and satisfying to pull; like cleaning a really dirty house you can quickly see where you've been and what you've accomplished. Our April project will focus on searching for and pulling patches of invasive, non-native garlic mustard and other weeds. We will do some walking off trails, so sturdy footwear is important. The woods may be wet so waterproof boots are a good idea if you have them. Meet on Woodside Drive at the trailhead parking area just north of the canal bridge on the left. We need your help in order to continue reclaiming these habitats for our native plants and wildflowers! We will meet at the campground office and hike or caravan to our work location. No experience is necessary. We will be working mostly in flat terrain so this activity may be best suited for youth and those that don’t want to do arduous hiking to other work locations.
