  1. Full disclaimer - I am not a scat expert:)

    That said, raccoon scat wouldn't be the size of a sprinkle. I had put forward it being from a racoon because I thought the roundness was from undigested berries. Rodents have small scat (like a sprinkle), but that's typically oblong. So now my guess would be this is from a rabbit.  

    I will happily defer to any wildlife biologist that wants to weigh in though!

     

  2. Now that phragmites treatment season is officially over, the DEQ is looking for input on its phragmites prioritization tool (find it here), specifically from CISMAs. Please reply to this thread with your thoughts!

    Questions to consider:

    1. Does your CISMA use the prioritization tool? 

    2. Do you find it useful? What are the pros/cons?

    3. Have you modified it to fit your needs? Would you be willing to share the changes you made and copies of your forms?

    4. Should the DEQ revise or update the tool?

    5. Should the DEQ promote the tool more?

  3. SOGL 2017 Funding Opportunity 


    We are pleased to announce our 2017 Request For Proposals.

    Sustain Our Great Lakes is soliciting applications for competitive funding to restore and enhance habitat in the Great Lakes basin. Details about this funding opportunity are provided in the Request for Proposals. The submission deadline for full applications is February 21, 2017. Please note, the pre-proposal stage included in past years has been eliminated for 2017. Additional application information is available at www.sustainourgreatlakes.org.

    In 2017, grant funding will be awarded in three categories:

    • Stream and Riparian Habitat
    • Coastal Wetlands
    • Green Stormwater Infrastructure New funding category in 2017

    To be eligible for funding, projects must occur within the Great Lakes basin. Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and state, tribal and local governments. Up to $7.8 million is expected to be available for grant awards. Individual awards will range from $50,000 to $1.5 million. 

    Sustain Our Great Lakes partners will host the following webinar to share additional information pertinent to this funding opportunity:

    January 10, 2017 at 11 AM Eastern Time/10 AM Central Time
    This webinar will provide additional information on the current funding opportunity, provide additional guidance on the application process, and provide answers to participant questions. Webinar participants can register by clicking here.

    SOGL 2017 Funding Opportunity Webinar  

    Please join us for a webinar on January 10, 2017 at 11 AM Eastern Time/10 AM Central Time to learn about the grant funding opportunity to be offered through Sustain Our Great Lakes. The webinar will highlight important changes for the 2017 funding cycle, including the addition of funding for green storm water infrastructure, and the removal of the pre-proposal phase.

    On January 3, Sustain Our Great Lakes will solicit applications for funding to restore and enhance habitat in the Great Lakes basin. The Request for Proposals will be available at www.sustainourgreatlakes.org. In 2017, grant funding will be awarded in three categories:

    • Stream and Riparian Habitat
    • Coastal Wetlands
    • Green Storm Water Infrastructure - New funding category in 2017
