Tucked away within Bluffs’ 39 acres is an open field filled with native prairie species. Come out and help us preserve this beautiful habitat by removing invasive shrubs, such as buckthorn and honeysuckle, which are encroaching on the prairie. Meet at the entrance on Sunset Road near Wildt Street. Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Every participant must present a completed release form, and all minors should be accompanied by a guardian. Tools, snacks, and know-how provided.

Our autumn stewardship Saturday project will include cutting invasive, non-native shrubs and stump treating them with herbicide to restore this special wet mesic flatwoods. Join us! Spotting invasive shrubs, which stay green longer than our natives, is easy this time of year so we can do a thorough job! Meet on Woodside Drive at the trailhead parking area just north of the canal bridge on the left. From The Strand, pass the athletic fields and Vista Drive then turn left at the next road (there is a brick bathroom building at the corner). GPS coordinates: 42.340386, -82.968116

Help protect the forest system of this beautiful lakeside park.  We’ll cut some young black locust resprouts before moving through the nearby dunes.  Once our locust cut is complete, we’ll have a nice hike along the trail and dunes while searching for small multiflora rose, privet, Japanese barberry and other enemies of native ecosystems.    Meet at the organizational campground parking area on Floral Lane.  From there we will caravan to the worksite.  Please arrive on time.   Degree of difficulty:  Low.  GPS coordinates:   41.921620, -86.578874.
