Ryan Koziatek
The BCK CISMA has received inquiries regarding the treatment of oak wilt. The landowner is wondering about BMPs and possible financial assistance for quarantine, removal, or treatment. What are other CISMAs doing in response to this issue? Emily Anderson
WRISC hasn't done much directly with oak wilt since one of our Partners, the Dickinson Conservation District, is currently the lead on a large MISGP funded oak wilt project. We pretty much pass inquiries on to them. For more info, contact the district forester AJ Campbell at 906-774-1550x100 or aj.campbell@mi.nacdnet.net. Katie Grzesiak
A similar situation with ISN; Manistee CD has a grant to deal with it. Presently, my understanding is that a suspicion of oak wilt needs to be confirmed by a forester. Then, depending on where you are, there's a possibility of cost-share for treatment. At the very least, MISIN is a good way to start. I know both of "my" foresters are subscribed to get MISIN updates on forest pests, and other CISMA coordinators can also pass them to their District Foresters.
